Balochistan: Chaos and Controversies

Balochistan the most strategically and economically significant province is unfortunately caught in serious chaos and controversies. Smelling the opportunity various foreign hands are playing their cards in the region to further worsen the situation. Balochistan has always attracted the major powers of world because of its strategic importance and natural resources. It is interesting that since Pakistan has signed two grand projects of Gawadar port and IP gas pipeline project, the two heinous incidents of Quetta massacre took place; these incidents were a serious effort to boost the sectarian violence in Pakistan.  Various reports about the hidden agenda to break Pakistan are not fabricated. Lashkar-e-Jhanvi that has claimed responsibility for Hazara massacre was in fact created to counter Iran’s Islamic Revolution in 1980’s. The US-Israel-Saudi plot is well renowned to use Al-Qaeda and other terrorist groups to tackle Iran’s influence in Middle East. LeJ is also reportedly being financed by several Persian Gulf countries that include Oman, UAE and Saudia Arabia to counter the rising influence of Iran, moreover these states are not glad over Gwadar Port because Gawadar port is a deep water port as compared to other ports in Persian Gulf and Gawadr will affect business on those ports.
Foreign elements are not only using terrorism tactics to interfere in Balochistan but also using political factors to achieve their goals. The nationalist and separatist parties are covertly being supported by the hostile elements. People of Balochistan should choose those leaders who are actually looking forward to Balochistan development and are not influenced by the foreign propaganda. Lately, the arrival of Akhtar Mengal and interest of BNP in alliance with PMLN is significant move. It needs to be analyzed that what development were brought by Akhtar Mengal when he was CM of Balochistan! If he has actually came to Pakistan with agenda of Balochistan development than he is most welcome but if he has brought foreign agenda with him then enough are the nuisances tolerated by Balochistan. Moreover the progress of PMLN in its two tenures, towards Balochistan should also be analyzed by BNP before they make an alliance with PMLN. People who are actually interested in improvement of Balochistan should be at front to represent Balochistan. We need loyal leaders to handle the chaos and controversies of Balochistan but these leaders are to be selected by the people of Balochistan, so we all are in sheer need to choose persons in best interest of Balochistan.

‘Pakistan Day’: A Day to Gleam ‘Green’

Month of March is special for every Pakistani because of ‘23rd March’. The date holds a momentous position in the history of Pakistan. The word ‘Pakistan’ was never known to the world but seventy one years ago, on March 23, 1940; resolution was moved on for a separate sovereign state under the leadership of Quaid-e-Azam by A.K. Fazl-ul-Haq, which is considered a major milestone in making of ‘Pakistan’. The day is thus celebrated as “Pakistan Day’. The name itself shows the nation’s love for Pakistan. 23rd March is a public holiday and Pakistanis celebrate it with great enthusiasm and passion. At the dawn of Pakistan Day, Pakistan’s national flag is being hoisted on all government and public buildings, change of guard occurs at mausoleums of Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah and Allama Muhammad Iqbal. Special festivals, parties, TV shows, national songs in accordance with 23rd March are telecasted throughout the day. The nation celebrates the day with full zeal which shows its love for its country.
In recent times, though Pakistan is passing through hard-hitting phase, political and economic instability has encircled Pakistan badly, hostile foreign elements have also jumped in to fuel the fuss, but still the will to fight is pushing nation towards a prosperous Pakistan. There are still silver lines in darkness and hope for light at end of black tunnel is not gone yet. Pakistan Day revives the enthusiasm to fight this darkness.

‘Pakistan Day’ reminds us the famous words of Quaid-e-Azam that “The Hindus and Muslims belong to two different religious philosophies, social customs, and literature. They neither inter-marry nor inter-dine together, and indeed they belong to two different civilizations which are based mainly on conflicting ideas and conceptions.” The ‘Pakistan Resolution’ created deep down a sense of nationalism, integrity, solidarity, and enthusiasm for getting out of slavery. These words remind us that Pakistan was based on two nation theory and we have to keep our identity above high.
Lately, ‘Elections season’ is moving closer. Nation is now firm in showing its uniformity to fight all instabilities, insurgencies, corruption and terrorism. The spirits have gone high for a ‘Change Pakistan’. Now people don’t die for their political affiliation rather they are ready to die for revolution in Pakistan, at times when politicians are vowing for democracy as the best political system then nation is telling politicians to follow a system which can bring best for Pakistan. The patriotism is at its peak. On this 23rd March, nation is showing harmony by spreading ‘Green’. If the social media is being followed, Pakistanis have turned their dp’s Green. The more exciting thing is that most of the pages of facebook have shown unity by placing identical dp’s and cover photos. In this ‘election season’ a big number of people have rejected to place political flags and they have chosen Pakistani flag for their representation, which shows patriotism and love for Pakistan. A tribute must be given to the following FB pages to prove solidarity on ‘Pakistan Day’, which shows their pledge for a change Pakistan:

Bal Thackeray's Pakistan

When the sun risen of 18th March, I started my day with Namaz and then by the time got busy in other routine chores. All day along I heard about Match that though Pakistan lost the match but Afridi’s inning made the match catchy and entertaining.
In evening when I opened my Facebook account, Afridi was all over, but in height of sixes of Afridi there were shrieks of sadden news which appeared quite heart wrenching to me. The national hero, who became the pride of PAF in 1965 war between Pakistan-India by knocking down the latest 5 aircraft of enemy in just one minute by its outdated jet, was no more in this world.
I came to know about this news through a Pak-Army fan page, i was shocked and lost in this news that why i could not know about this news throughout the day. i felt awkward that I am not up to date about current affairs and news world. Later I checked updates on FB pages of news channel but I didn’t find any such news, then I visited all news channels for checking the authenticity of news but of no use.
I called a friend for confirmation of news he laughed at my ignorance and confirmed the news. I was astonished that what is the matter then I figured out that Pakistan in which we are living is not Pakistan of Pakistanis, neither Iqbal’s Pakistan nor Quaid’s Pakistan rather this is ‘Bal Thakrey’s Pakistan’.
This is surely not M M Alam’s Pakistan because if M M Alam would be an Indian then his news would surely appear on our media as all Indian news gets coverage on our media whether it is about Amitabh’s birthday, Yash Chpra’s death, fight between Shahrukh and Salman or about Bal Thakrey’s death. If any of such incident took place we not only have knew it but we must have been discussing it. The news ironically could not take place in our media because he is a national hero and he will remain a national hero, media probably cannot held accountable because media is all about entertainment and love to telecast the stuff that can attract people. Media should realize that nation want to see the defenders of Pakistan, people want to know about the soldiers that are defending Pakistan in the glacial heights of Siachen, in  blazing deserts of Cholistan and in depths of sea. No one can pay a soldier for the bullet he bears on his chest for his country; there is no price of blood.
M M Alam and many like him are the National Hero of Pakistan, they are the pride of Pakistan and we will remember them as the proud sons of soil. There blood will never be elapsed.  Nation will never forget their sacrifices; they gave their lives so that we can breathe freely in Pakistan. These heroes are to live forever. Pakistan Zindabad!

'Chal Parha'- A Motivational Move

Shehzad Roy, a famous singer of Pakistan, also runs a non-government educational organization, ‘Zindagi’ (meaning 'life'). Trust, that took over the management of a government school, Fatima Jinnah Girls School, in 2007.Shahzad Roy said ‘I have a remarkable team of people who have transformed a once-dilapidated government school into a model that the government can replicate in other schools.’ He visualizes ‘Chal Parha’ as an opportunity to spread his message to Pakistan everywhere as he traveled across 80 cities in Pakistan and visited 200 government schools. The promotional song (Chal Parha) of the program defines the digression of the society, in general, for not giving due attention to ’education’. In a light yet piercing manner, the lyrics serve as a stringer for the listeners. In each episode of ‘Chal Parha’, the issues from public schools for example, corporal punishment, medium of instruction, population, textbooks, curriculum, teachers etc have been highlighted. Awareness has been created for the basic right to quality education, moreover steps have been taken to bring some improvement I these schools. 20 thumb-printing attendance machines in government schools in all 5 provinces have been installed to bring transparency to the teacher absenteeism issue. It has been reported that attendance data since installation has been collected and improvement is been viewed as the teacher attendance has increased considerably in these schools.
Moreover in the episode on corporal punishment, a law banning physical abuse in schools was proposed. The National Assembly of Pakistan after it approved a bill prohibiting corporal punishment of children in educational institutions. The bill has declared any form of corporal punishment of children in academic institutions illegal. Individuals involved in the acts will be sentenced to one year in prison, Rs 50,000 fine or both. Chal Parha is another call to declare ‘education emergency’ in Pakistan – not just by adding Article 25-A in the Constitution, but to ensure its fair and proper implementation.
Many in Pakistan are supporting Shehzad Roy’s cause, as Fakiha Hassan Rizvi writes “Roy is both a motivation and a lesson for any young adult living in this country. Unlike many, he isn’t chasing projection in the neighboring media outlets, allured by ‘piles of money’ or the lust for fame. If he continues with his efforts, there are good enough chances for him to introduce a new ‘genre’ in Pakistani music industry- something like ‘social responsibility’.”  Similarly Ghazi Salahuddin writes on Chal Parha, "The real challenge is to explore the roots of what is happening to us. When ‘Chal Parha’ dealt with the problem of corporal punishment in schools it judiciously linked it with the prevalence of violence at all levels of our society. This linkage has considerable significance and it underlines the fact that we need the right kind of education and parenting to counter the evils that have seeped into our collective psyche."
There may be various controversial aspects of ‘Chal Parha’ but the positives should always be highlighted and appreciated. Motivational projects can inspire youngsters to come forward to bring a change in society.

PROVOCATION AND BELLIGERENCE

India is intentionally obsessed and relates issues with Pakistan whether they have any significance or not. India presents Pakistan as the epicenter of terrorism and raises a hue and cry over it. The nuclear proliferation issues are also a favourite topic which is debated as and when it suits India. The most sensitive issue of Indian role in Afghanistan is also irking India as Pakistan has a credibly genuine standing and is capable to play a meaningful role there. Indian propaganda is mostly directed towards international community to exert more and more pressure on Pakistan and to keep Pakistan in a state of dependence and submission.

India heeds to understand that Pakistan has a clear and overt policy when it comes to its defence. Defence is the right of every country.Pakistan’s nuclear development is deterrence and not a threat to anyone. On the contrary India is stockpiling indigenous weapons beyond proportions and with the collaboration of other countries, defence deals are underway providing India with the state of the art weaponry. Very recently,a deal of 126 aircrafts with France is for what great purpose? Why has international community closed her eyes and is not paying any attention on Indian provocation and belligerence.

Indian actions speak louder than her words. The slogan of “Aman ki Asha” therefore appears to be an allure only for the simple minded Pakistanis, and the international community.

Key to Harmony

Man is mixture of change and permanence. Only an unalterable code can guarantee positive change, progress and peace with no rigid authoritarianism that bars amendment in subsequent laws to be made flexible in accordance with the demand of time. Whitehead, the author of “Adventures of Ideas”, points out that the ‘Truth’ proportionate to ‘Reality’ lies in the Revelation from God, if it is available in its original form. Bergson in “The Two Sources of Religion and Morality”, Spingler in “The Decline of the West” and Rashdall in “The Theory of Good and Evil” indicate that the holy book of Islam seems to qualifying the criteria of being original. But the problem is that we the followers called Ummah have subjected it to eclipses of religious rigidity and political bigotry. Man-made interpretations to the God-given code of life have only hindered our growth and marred the world peace. Allama Iqbal’s advice “If you want to become a true Muslim, you can’t become without Quran” is not paid heed to. Quaid-i-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah’s Pakistan “not to become a theocratic state” is bleeding today under sectarian extremisms of heterogeneous streamers. Years and months, weeks and days since the start of Afghan war have inflicted us wounds after wounds, deaths of thousands, loss of billions, and the agony goes on. Social fabric of society and psyche of citizens have changed to distress and despondency, helplessness and inaction. The vacuum and gap has offered space to the collaborators to turn our territory into turf of war of their interest. Someone has to fill the gap or Nature will. Or the reason and sanity have to replace it. Sooner the better.
Way forward lies in bringing the ‘Truth’ at par with ‘Reality’. Sense of loss – what else is left to lose – is the key to regain our strength, reunite our ranks, rejuvenate our spirits and infuse a new life in the nation, across the board, without discrimination and prejudice. Tolerance maybe a means to harmony and tranquility, religious concord or societal accordance, but why need a tolerance, why preach co-existence within our own self if there is a consensus Code of Procedure available to extirpate all kinds of differences and turn the society into oneness? Let’s behold it tight. Enough is enough. Blood in Quetta and Karachi, elsewhere in the country, has the message to stop. Inimical forces have to be overpowered. State has the responsibility to devise a long-term strategy and provide adequate legal and prosecution framework, keeping in view the ultimate goal of building a society free of falsehood and deceit. Our politicians, civil society representatives and members from the intelligentsia or academia have to play the lead role of iconoclast. Now. It is never too late. In words of Allama Muhammad Iqbal: “The dimness of the stars is evidence of the bright morning. The sun has risen over the horizon; the time of deep slumber has passed.”
(Farooq-uz-Zaman)
